Carnival Cruise Ship Loses Power

On November 11, 2010, a Carnival Cruise line with 4500 passengers lost power. From Monday until Thursday, the passengers could not flush toilets, had no cold drinks, could not shower, and could not find their way around their cabins because of the darkness. The food they could eat was limited, so by the end of the week, a lot of them were extremely hungry.
For one couple, this was their honeymoon cruise. I cannot imagine having that happen to me on my honeymoon. I am sure she had been dreaming about her honeymoon her entire life, and then that happens.
The most horrific image in my head is how the ship must have smelled not being able to flush toilets. I am sure that people were also probably getting more sea sick than normal because of lack of food, so vomit could not have been flushed either.
I have never really stopped to think how we could not survive without power. This just goes to show how much the world has changed in the last century. I personally would not be able to survive more than a few hours without power. We are so dependant on power to live.
I am going on a cruise this summer, and I am very glad it is not on the same line of cruises. This made me nervous.

Shark Attacks

Since 2000, there have been 268 shark attacks in Florida. Only 4 of them have been fatal.
There have only been twelve shark attacks in the Bahamas, and non of them have been fatal.
Wearing bright colors will increase the risk of being spotted by a shark.
Jewelry should also not be worn because to a shark it looks like the scales of a fish.
More than 90% of attacks have been on males.
